Youth Classes
Glynlyon Tennis Club Youth athletes are aged between 3rd and 8th grade. The color of the class correlates with the Net Generation levels, as recommended by USTA, and are explained in more detail below.
Orange Girls
Orange Girls’ class is designed for our youngest female athletes between 2nd and 6th grade are learning the key elements of tennis like grip and swing path for the main strokes, match play scoring and rules, and court movement.
Orange felt balls bounce higher and move faster than the Red felt or foam balls but lower and slower than the Green ball. They are a step toward the traditional yellow tennis ball while still remaining fun and manageable for players learning the game. Courts at this level are 60 feet by 21 feet for singles and 60 feet by 27 feet for doubles.
Green Girls
Green Girls’ class is designed for our female athletes between 5th and 8th grade that are learning the key elements of tennis like grip and
swing path for the main strokes, match play scoring and rules, and court movement while also showing an aptitude for eye hand
coordination, movement in relation to the ball, and an improving fitness level.
The Green ball is very similar to the traditional yellow tennis ball but with a slightly lower compression, so it rebounds lower off the court after a bounce. The Green court is the same dimension as the traditional Yellow court: 78 feet by 27 feet for singles and 78 feet by 36 feet for doubles.
Yellow Girls
Yellow Girls’ class is designed for our female athletes between 5th and 8th grade that have at least a basic understanding of the key elements of tennis like grip and swing path for the main strokes, match play scoring and rules, and court movement while also having the ability to rally the ball, move to the ball with efficiency, and a moderate fitness level to extended point play.
The Yellow level is what most people know as traditional tennis. That means the court size is the same as at the green level: 78 feet by 27 feet for singles and 78 feet by 36 feet for doubles.
