Setting your child UP
for success
Racket
The most important thing is to get the right size racquet. You want to get one that isn’t too big or heavy. This will reduce their risk of injury and allow them to have fun on the court. We have youth rackets to try out at the club. Your childs instructor can help guide you, if needed.
Shoes
Tennis is always safer with court shoes. The reason being running shoes tend to sit pretty high off the ground and they also don’t provide much support for side-to-side movements. So it’s easier to twist or roll your ankles when wearing running shoes. We require non-marking soles on our court.
Outfit
Look good, feel good, do good!
Tennis is an active sport so come prepared in activewear. It's important to have flexible clothes that allow you to move freely across the court.
Hair tied back, a sweatshirt for warm-ups in the winter months or even pants when its chilly.
Hydration
Be sure to bring your water and/or sports drink with you. We do have a water filtration system fill your bottle and drinking fountain. Dehydration can affect a tennis player's performance in less than an hour, even sooner if the athlete comes into the practice session or match dehydrated.
Food
Food is fuel! Please arrive fed and ready to have fun. Especially for those after school lessons. Eating well before, during, and after tennis training can dramatically improve not only your performance but also your rate of recovery.
Fun
At Glynlyon Tennis Club we love a positive attitude, great work ethic, and the willingness to try new things! The mental game in tennis is half the battle. Good listening skills, being attentive, and doing your best will make your court time more enjoyable and productive!
